A walk through the aisles at this year’s Ag in Motion show provided visitors with a look back at the history of farm equipment with a few displays of tractors from decades past. The antique tractor pull provided a practical look at just what it was like to operate those vintage machines and showed what they were capable of.

The exhibits also provided ample opportunity to look at the machinery available to farmers today. But some of the equipment on display at the show also provided a glimpse into the future.

Drone technology has seen increasing interest at the show over the last couple of years, but one small machine, which isn’t technically a drone, allows a pilot to sit in the cockpit and fly something almost as small as a drone. The Cool Fly quadcopter made its first appearance at the show and it attracted a lot of attention.

The small Cool Fly requires only 10 hours of flight school to quality a pilot to operate it.

Full machine autonomy was on display with PTx Trimble’s Outrun autonomous grain cart preforming for visitors, with company staff on hand to describe its operation in detail. The system’s autonomous tillage feature was also on display and will be commercially available this fall.

And the autonomy wasn’t restricted to field operations. For the first time, Tesla brought its line of vehicles to the show, and the Cyber Truck also includes a self-driving feature, although the driver is still expected supervise it.
