In 2019 Claas announced the introduction of its MFWD Axion 900 Series tractor line to the North American market. The Axion 900 line includes three models above 300 horsepower, the 940, 950 and 960. In Mid 2022, Claas added another model to the Axion line in North America, a variation on the 960, the 960TT Terra Trac half-track tractor.
Together, those models offer 334, 357 and 391 advertised PTO horsepower. They feature a standard four-point suspended cab, PROACTIV suspended front axle, shock-absorbing front and rear three-point hitches, a semi-active seat and good visibility from the driver’s seat because of curved glass and forward B-pillar posts. And the 960TT offers full suspension on both axles.
Under the hoods of all 900 Series models is an 8.7-litre, six-cylinder FPT diesel engine. Mated to that engine is a CMATIC four-range continuously variable transmission.
Hydraulic flow rate for all the 900 Series tractors is 58 g.p.m. (219 l/m).
At the top of Class’ tractor offering in Canada are the unique rigid-frame four-wheel drive Xerions, available in two different models, the 517 horsepower 5000 or 476 horsepower 4500. Both use a 12.8-litre Mercedes OM 471 LA diesel, which allows for a pretty long 1,000 hour service interval to reduce downtime.
Behind the Mercedes diesel, the Xerions use a ZF-made CVT transmission, making them capable of travelling at 50 km/h, even in reverse.
The Xerions have six different steering modes and a hydraulic capacity of 51.5 g.p.m. or optional flow rates of 72.5 or 117.5 g.p.m. (195, 275 or 445 l/m) and a maximum of 10 remotes.
