Amity Introduces the Precision Shank Drill

By Spencer Myers Published: Mar 20, 2018

Amity recently released the Precision Shank Drill, the newest addition to their line-up of air seeding equipment.

Amity says their Precision Shank Drill (PSD) is a truly new concept in precision seeding and fertilizer placement. The PSD has cutting coulters, precision placement openers, disk levellers, and a wide pneumatic packer tire. All of these features are mounted to an independent linkage. This linkage removes depth control issues of the rigid frame shank unit while retaining all of the agronomic benefits of the ground engaging components mentioned above.

The PSD’s disc levellers are an industry exclusive and ensure that soil from the shank is placed back in front of the packer tire, ensuring the seed depth is consistent across the field. These new features are designed to work regardless of the operating speed.

The Amity Precision Shank Drill was developed with an edge-on shank design, allowing existing openers developed through years of challenging conditions to adapt to the individual linkage. Most of these openers allow for proper nutrient placement at the time of seeding, achieving the 4 R’s of a nutrient program (right place, right time, right source, and right rate).

Shank pressure and packing pressure can be controlled by the operator from the cab. Adjustments to the disk leveller and down pressure allow the producer to design the field finish they desire.

The depth of seed placement is easily accomplished with reliable, accurate coloured depth stops located on the machine. The PSD’s packer tire can be adjusted to “skew” it for cleaning of soil build-up on the tire.

To minimize the amount of regular service to the machine, the PSD’s linkage is designed with greaseless bushings on all the pivot points. This allows for the elimination of daily maintenance required on the drill, keeping the producer seeding in the field.
