Paul Caouette and Sons, a trusted name in agricultural equipment sales.
Paul Caouette has come a long way in the past 34 years, since the “farm kid” first opened the doors of his implement dealership in an elderly 600 square foot barn which was then the only business across the tracks on 46 Street, selling short-line equipment such as front-end loaders, cultivators and discs.
Caouette & Sons is the only locally owned farm dealership in St. Paul, “I guess I’m the last one standing from the peak of 7 farm equipment dealerships I used to compete against, I was very pleased when Tri-Ag moved into Town, it would have been bad for St. Paul & my business if we lost another dealer.”
“I’ve been around along time and have seen many ups & downs in the agriculture sector, and this past year was especially tough on farmers.” Paul Caouette thanks all his many loyal customers for keeping his doors open: “if it wasn’t for the repeat business and loyalty I wouldn’t have been around for 34 years.”
At Paul Caouette & Sons you see machinery with well-known brand names: Massey Ferguson, AGCO, Hesston, New Idea, and shortline products such as Ezee-On, Gehl, Schulte & Leon crowd the sales lot. Can’t afford new there’s a large inventory of quality used equipment.
Paul has enjoyed overseeing the business his family has built from the ground up. A after 34 years he’s going to start taking it a little easier: “My son Leo just sold his consulting business and will be managing the family business, it’s the beginning of a transition and I’m confident he’ll grow the business, he’s got the energy and know how needed.”
A big advantage of dealing at Caouette and Sons is its employees, some of whom have been with the firm for many years. Caouette’s employees keep current with the ever-changing agricultural industry by attending training schools sponsored by the machinery distributors. Good Service is a key to keeping customer loyalty. At Caouette and Sons they pride themselves at getting to know all their customers by name. “I’m now selling machinery to the second generation I’ve known a lot of them as youngsters who used to come in with their fathers.”
